Track bar nuts

I have been reading about how difficult these are going to be to remove. Well yesterday I crawled under the truck and tried to give one of them a turn with a breaker bar. Damn those are tight.

I have an impact that has a max rating of 500 ftlbs, and I am thinking about going and picking up one that has a little more *** to it.

Any tips on removing these. What did you guys use to remove them.

I am going to be putting the lift on next Tuesday, that is when my adjustable track bar is supposed to be here, and I want to have all my tools lined up and ready for the job.

I am putting it on here at work, I have a torch at work so I will probably put some heat to them and then hit them with some water.

An impact looks like it is going to be difficult to get on the bolt because of the drag link that is in front of it.

I have been putting PB Blaster on all the bolts everyday this week. So I am hoping they will be ready to come loose easy by next Tuesday.

Here is my stack of goodies and tools ready to put on. I have another floor jack that is not in the photo.

I have all the sockets, and wrenches. I have put a socket on every bolt that needs to come out.

The only bolts that are concerning me are the track bar bolts.

TRACK BAR NUTS

The factory recommended torque on those nuts is 405 foot pounds. You need a giant breaker bar to loosen them and a giant torque wrench to tighten them.

Yeah that is what I am gathering. I am thinking about putting a jack handle on my 19 inch breaker bar and trying to use that.

My torque wrench only goes to 200 ftlbs. I am going tighten them down as tight as possible and then drive it up to Ford and have them do the final torquing on the bolts. It is only 2 miles from my work. It is going to need an alignment anyway.

I might run by Harbor Freight and see what they have for breaker bars.

Do you think it is easier to break them lose with it on the jack stands or while it is still on the ground. I imagine it will be easier on the jack stands since the weight of the vehicle will be off the suspension.

I read on powerstroke nation that someone used a breaker bar and a hydraulic jack to break it lose. That actually sounds like a pretty good idea.

I think I will try that method, if all else fails. Picked up a 3/4 breaker bar. These bolts stand no chance. LoL

At least that is what I am telling myself.

That....might have been me.

I got one off with just PB Blaster and a breaker bar.... the other one I had to use a hydraulic jack with the breaker bar. It works!

I am hoping so. The user name over there that mentioned it was "wsigo" if that is you, that is where I heard it.

The only thing that has me worried about this lift is breaking these bolts lose. I have found a lot of good advice. I am ready for my track bar to hurry up and get here so I can get this over with. The rest of my lift has been sitting in the garage waiting patiently to be installed since Saturday.

I will post up some pics of the bolt removal process. That way if anyone searches in the future they will be there.

I have done a ton of jeeps before, and there is always something that sneaks up and ends up making it a LOT longer day than it should have been.

LOL, nope, S/N is the same on all the forums I'm on.

Honestly, after breaking them lose, it's still a PIA.... but just take it slow and you'll get them off. you will have to turn the wheels to get access to the lower one, tho. A Wrench will help a lot.

Good advice, hoping it all goes easy. I had a reputable 4 wheel drive shop that wanted 800 to install it. I just could not live with myself paying someone 800 deer to install something I know I can do.

Plus that is about what it is going to cost me for a new shiny set of wheels.

I have an AC Delco floorjack, not the jackstands, my assumption is AC Delco manufacturers all the needed equipment to repair you know what on a more frequent basis than Motocraft, LOL

Just another piece of the puzzle to keep Chevy's running, kinda like John Deere, marketing is everything for some people.

I know the service manager. He won't charge me for anything but the alignment.
