When I get above 50 mph I feel a weird thumping/vibration in the skinny pedal. It's pretty sparatic but continuous. Could this be causes by my steering being loose. I have play in my steering wheel, a decent amount. It almost feels like my tire is out of balance. Anyone had this issue before or any ideas. Before I put my stacks on I thought it was just my exhaust bumping against my PTO but now I am puzzled. Thanks fellas for any input.
Check trans mount to see if its loose.
Then check U-joints.
My trans mount bolt likes to come loose (yea, i'm missing one cause its broke on the trans) and it will make some weird vibrations at different speeds when loose.
I can feel it in the floor and it almost feels like a tire is out of balance. I will concentrate a little more today on the drive home and see what I can find. Thanks fellas.
Is there a specific way to find out If it is the carrier bearing. About 3 months ago I went from a 32 inch tire to a 35. Would that cause extra strain on the bearing. What should I look for when looking at the bearing.
I have only read about it but it will be loose when you try to move the driveshaft, similar to a U-joint and you may be able to smell the friction or feel the heat and see shavings. Probably would be best to drive it then check it hot.
The rubber grommet around it seam to be broken down a little and I can push it up. As for rotating it, it don't move much at all. I will do some searching around FTE and see what I can find about how to identify it. Thanks.
that sounds like the movement I am refering to. Mine is tight and does not move up/down/sideways. If yours does, it could be the problem or at least another problem. There are always problems aren't there? LOL
I believe it is one piece and there are varying qualities out there. It is pressed on the shaft also. do some searching on here and you will find some who have done it and some write up.
The driveline isn't moving inside the bearing only that crappy rubber bushing. Maybe I will just replace it and see what happens. It's only $70 buy with my napa discount probably $40-$50. Any other ideas beside the carrier bushing?
I notice one of the trans nuts was stripped out and wouldn't tighten all the way so I put another nut on it and tightened it. Hmm I don't know. The weird thing is that it seams to stop when the truck is in neutral. I will double check that tonight when I go BACK to work and have to work all night. 4 hrs off after working 10 then back for another 10 +. Crap!!! Barely enough time for a cold one or two. Lol.
