And speaking of boost/virgin/cricket/metro etc... I'm beginning to think the prepaid carriers are going to be the way to go here in a few years if the incentives keep up especially with Android phones with half decent specs (Virgin has one that is basically a Droid X) available at reasonable prices. It was VERY nice to pay what I was paying for boost although I would not have used their service had I not been able to put a top of the line (at the time) phone onto the service...
Well, the one I have through Virgin is an LG Optimus V - originally running FroYo... Not a bad phone - does what I need it to. I paid $99 for the phone and the service (no contract) is $35/month for 1500 min talk /unlimited everything else.
I have heard Virgin caps bandwidth, but I haven't had that happen to me yet...
You won't find top-end phones as pre-paid's. If you don't mind not having the latest and greatest, pre-paid really is the way to go...
You can get top of the line phones onto boost/virgin. Epic 4g and Evo are easy, Evo3d is harder but doable. Legality of it is a bit grey but if you own the phone used to clone the Sprint phone onto boost and pay for the service you use, there wont be an issue.
I ran an epic 4g for a year on boost. Good speeds, good service, great phone. Like I said only real issue is no roaming so if you aren't in an area with Sprint towers you have no ability to make any calls.
