HELP - Wheels for Disc Brake Conversion

Ok, I really need some help here. I did a front and rear disc brake conversion (see below)

The stock 15" wheels does fit over the calipers (they rub slightly). People on this forum said to get older wheels (years that offered disc brakes) so I did, I purchased a set and had them shipped to me, but.........

They don't fit either

Could it be that my disc conversion is just bigger than all the stock disc brakes so no wheel will fit?

Help

They cannot be from a 1997, because if they were, they wouldn't fit! F150's went to metric wheels in 1997.

5 lug, 5.50" bolt pattern Styled Aluminum (and Styled Steel) wheels were introduced in 1977 F100/150's and E150's, Bronco's got 'em in 1978, were used thru 1996.

1973 = First year disc brakes were available for F100 2WD's.

5 lug, 5.50" bolt circle: 1953/79 F100 / 1966/96 Bronco / 1975/96 E/F150.

Some 1980/83 F100's have a 5.50" bolt circle, some have a 4.50" bolt circle.

I suspect the aftermarket conversion kit that you used will probably not work with stock ford rims. I think you are going to have to go up to 16 inch wheels with that setup which should give you the clearance you need. What about these, they are 16 inch:

What year wheels did the OP buy? If he bought 1997 thru today F150 wheels, these are metric. If he bought 1953/72 F100 2WD, 1959/75 F100 4WD, 1966/75 Bronco wheels, these will not clear the calipers.

If he bought 1980/83 F100 wheels with the 4.50" bolt circle, they won't fit either.

Disc brakes introduced in 1973 F100 2WD, 1975 F150 2WD, 1976 F100/150 4WD & Bronco.

It depends where the calipers are hitting...?One thing you might want to try are wheel spacers...they are aluminum and cost about $20
for a set online. I have old 8 lug innie rims and my disc set-up came from a late 60's F250. When I mounted the wheels, they rubbed the
calipers a bit, but the spacers cured that and still had plenty of thread on the lugs. I think the spacers were about 1/8th inch approx.

Not sure, but this may cure the issue for you...I searched ebay for wheel spacers and they come up.

I think 16" wheels or Spacers are the Answer

66f100, I think you are correct. The conversion kit has calipers that are larger/bigger than the stock Ford disc brakes so no stock 15" wheel (regardless of the year) is going to work. They rub just a hair on the inside curve.

CropDusterMan, yeap, wheel spacers are an option (and I have tried it and it works), I just didn't want to modify how the wheel sits in the wheelwell but I guess if it's only a quarter inch or something like that it won't be noticable, right.

Will Stock hubcaps fit on those Summit Wheels

66f100. I like the idea of a 16" wheel. Do you know if my stock hubcaps will fit on those aftermarket wheels?

I guess it depends on what type of caps you have. Are they innies, outies, or a full wheel cover. The picture of the aftermarket wheel has a cap on it so you would need to call and find out where the tabs are located.

There were no full wheel covers available for 16" wheels until 1981. These are what Ford called: simulated mags. Both 15" and 16" were available, the protruding center hub is larger in diameter with the 16" version.

When the Sterling 10.25 rear axle was intro'd in 1985, the center hub is much larger in diameter than the 16" version used with Dana 60/61 & 70 rear axles.

In 1972, Ford introduced trim (beauty) rings for 16" wheels: D2TZ-1210-A. These were used with either dog dish hubcaps, or with wheel covers.

In order to install full wheel covers on 1972/80 F250/350's, the trim ring was snapped on first, then 1972 Galaxie/LTD 15" wheel covers (D2AZ-1130-J) were snapped onto the trim rings!

1966: Ford introduced optional 15" wheel covers for F100 2WD/4WD's, were offered thru 1977. These same wheel covers were standard equipment on 1967/77 Bronco's.

The 4WD front wheel cover, instead of having a center emblem, has a red plastic ring that allows the 4WD's hub to poke thru.
