My truck started to ping today at low speeds, for the first time since i bought it.
I've been up late searching the forums on pinging, and the opinion is the lack of egr.
So i realized mine isn't hooked up, its there, but no vacuum lines.
So i know i need to hook it into the thermal switch on the thermostat housing, but from where do i splice into to get vacuum?
I was thinking tap into the vacuum advance hose, would that be a OK place to start?
Do I have to route the vacuum lines just like the diagram to make it work right?
Or can I just tap into the vacuum line feeding my dist. Then run it to the switch on the thermostat, then run it to the egr?

It doesn't work that way. The load control valve (LCV) determines when to activate the ERG valve based on vacuum level. IIRC, it's hooked to ported vacuum to determine load and switches manifold vacuum on and off.

Is there any difference in the part other than the part numbers?
So i hook up this load control valve to a timed port on the carb, then that plugs into the vacuum line running to the egr valve, which would come off of the switch on the thermostat housing, which plugs into a constant vacuum?
Is that right?

The problem is, this info is from your older edition of the '73/79 light truck parts catalog, dated 1979. My 10/88 final edition lists D6AZ-9F424-A.
The Bronco and Passenger Car applications for D6AZ-9F424-A listed in post 6 are from the final edition (11/88) of the 1973/79 Ford Passenger Car parts catalog.
But, who knows after 33 years have passed by, which one of these valves the OP's truck has?
