Thanks to all for your input. Mr. Himmelberg is right about the look and feel of something old but still in service. My wife loves to find old things that still have use but that have been used and loved by others, such as iron skillets (being a southern girl she can cook too and will).

Jay, thanks for the offer to meet. If not raining I'll be there and looking forward to seeing and hearing your cruiser.

I have a new F150 and had thought of the 55 f100 as something of a resto rod project to keep me busy. I have no time table or master plan. Think I'll go back and re-read John N.'s Trials of a First Time Builder....

Thanks to all

Steve

Uh, Steve? If you ... um ... lose the crossover? Do you think I ... uh ... could have it ... maybe? Mine's rusty-dusty and I'm sure your's is in mint condition.

My 51 F1 has a 289 in it. It seems to do fine. Just got it running. It has been sitting for 7 years at my uncle's house. I need to take care of the hesitation, but it scoots pretty good. I will get some pictures up soon.

Oh the shame of it all..... If Mr. fenders hasn't noticed, midnite cruiser and I live in the same town and my club has a cruise in at Chick Filet the 2nd thurs of the month. All are welcome...We're about 35 mile south of Charlotte NC.... Road trip anyone?

Mr. Earl...If I have something you need, my pleasure to help, you've helped me with questions... payback time !

I wish I could get to PF for the nationals but the wife decided we had to go on a cruise last fall and guess which week?

BTW.....any estimate on parts to rebuild the 292 to its former glory? Not ground pounder but good driver with a little rumpy rumpy cam.

Thanks

Steve

Reds and Mummert sell parts to complete kits. With new pistons prices start around $750.
Not a cheap motor.

If you decide not to go the rebuild kit route, then JobLot Automotive (www.joblotauto.com) has a pretty complete list of parts for the 292. I've found their prices to be very competitive and the service is very good.

Their web site doesn't have any real info but their catalog does. You probably need to get the catalog before you can decide what you want. When you call, ask to talk with James. He can help you get exactly what you need and will help make sure you don't forget anything.

Carl,
Holy ****! What happened? Last time I looked they were about half that. For a sanity check I looked at my latest northernautoparts.com price list, and sure enough they also jumped to $732!
Is this due to a Federal Mogul price hike? I knew it was coming when they started bleeding red ink. Shoulda horded parts.....

Yikes!
Brett

$750 clams to rebuild the Y Block and still hear the click of the solid lifters?

That 302 is looking better. Maybe I'll run the 292 until she fails while rebuilding the 302. I do like the sound of the starter on the 292 though!

Decisions, decisions

Thats what seperates the men from the girls

But I better watch it, a 302 and 351W may be residing here soon.
Anyone have specs on a 88 5.0 HO in a Lincoln LSC?

Dear God

Please make Carl install a 302 into some sort of fullsize truck before I die. And then make him confess right here on FTE.

Amen

Not a chance Dewayne!

The Lincoln with the 5.0 will be my sons 16th birthday present.
I was going to get him an 87 TBird V6 but the Lincoln was left to me by a friend who recently died of cancer.
Figure its built strong enough to be a safe 1st car.

The 351W is in a late 80 something F250 4x4 that another friend wants to give me. Good driveline but body needs TLC. Might make a good tow vehicle after I spend a few days making new floors and rockers.

Thats my rewards for being a nice guy

So big hands is 10 CI that big of a deal to change engines. 302 - 292 = 10. All that work so you can put in a girly motor instead of the second bigest Y-block (production made).

Hey I had to get you back for the workbench comment.
