well i just towed my 28ft. camper this weekend and wow thats amzing how effortless it was!so im very happy with my new to me 7.3.
of course i got a couple of bugs to work out yet.i have a slight vibration taking off from a start and its worse when turning.tire rubbing like viration.but no tire rub.i gotta replace my rear diff cover so im gonna start there with fluid.
i have a small oil leak down rear of engine but valley is bone dry.thats insignificant right now though.
lost 1 quart of oil in 150 miles but since i changed clogged air filter no oil loss in over 100 more miles???(filter minder wasnt working figured dealer changed filter wrong!!)the intake hose had a solid stream of oil to turbo.
thanks for all the help and great info.
Now you understand why some folks like a diesel so much. Makes towing a whole lot easier.
Clean air filters are important. Sounds like you had a plugged air filter and it was sucking air (& oil vapors) through the crank case vent back through the turbo. The oil you saw in the intake tube is normal. Check all 6 of the rubber boots on the CAC plumbing. Make sure they are all good and snug.
Changing the air filter probably took care of most of your issue.
yes truck is bone stock.only aftermarket mickey thompson wheels stock size tires.it didnt sag alot loaded.the reason im starting with the rear is because cover is about rusted through.if it doesnt fix it then all new u-joints and carrier bearing.never replaced a carrier bearing.first time for everything!
If you have a limited slip rear end, it's very possible that the clutch pack is what you are feeling as your vibration. I had the same thing, and it was definitely worse when taking off mid-turn. You might get lucky and fix it by swapping out the gear-lube and making sure to add the correct friction modifier for the posi. More than likely though, the clutch pack will need to be re-built. Just a possibility.
I'm with you Les..... I don't think they do either !
I don't rely on mine, just change it every 20k miles regardless. I run either the Purolator PURE ONE or Fram TOUGH GUARD, both great drop in filters and work well for me as per my oil reports from Blackstone.
Before you spend money on all that stuff for the vibration you may want to pull you DS apart and grease the splines in the shaft at the carrier bearing, Ford didnt put a grease fitting in there and if they get dry can cause a vibration similar to waht your explaining.
