I have a '09 Ford F-150 Lariat, 5.4 with a lighting difficulty. Previous had it in for service for exterior lighting that was intermittent and uncontrolled. A door module was replaced and reprogramming performed by the dealer. Worked OK for awhile, but today I noticed that brake lights were on while the truck was parked. Checked all that I could think of then pressed the caution light button, activating the front/rear caution lights. Turned the caution button off. Brake lights went off. About an hour later, noticed the brake lights were on again. Tried different things to deactive the brake lights, but to no avail - brake lights stayed on. Have disconnected the battery - this is where it sits at the moment. Any ideas?
I'll place a wager on the brake pedal switch. A coworker had a Taurus a few years back which experienced unexplained brake light activation while off and parked. Turns out the brake pedal switch was a bit sensitive.
Do you have a brake controller? Have seen the brake controller go bad, and leave the brake lights on, and flash them. Unplugged it, no more problems. Still worked but have to remember to unplug after using it.
Turned out to be the brake controller. Ford mechanic unplugged it just as someone wrote in and said and everything was fine! We have some pretty smart Ford enthusiasts out there!
I thought your wager was a good one. Was going to mention it to the Ford mechanic as a possibility. He found the brake controller too quickly. Thanks for responding - I was ready to try anything.
Notice you ride a Honda ST1300. I ride a Gold Wing - an oldie, but a goodie - 1988 1500.

Love my ST1300. This is the first bike I've owned since 1973 where I find I DON'T think about which bike I want to get next. If I lost this one, I'd go right out and get another.
Know what you mean about your ST1300. I feel the same about my GL1500. Not sure if I could justify buying a new Gold Wing however.
Took the Ford F-150 to the Airstream dealer today to inquire about my defective brake controller. Dealer gave me the exact replacement for what I had, installed it and verified proper operation. All went well after about a 3 hour wait.
I used a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller on both of my Excursions, and it never gave me any problem at all. This 2010 FX4 has a brake controller built-in, but I couldn't tell you who made it ... nor do I own any trailers anymore.
I had a Tekonsha controller in each of my first two Fords (F-150 and F-250 diesel). The third Ford was a F-350 diesel with the factory built in unit installed. No trouble with any of those. The current F-150 did not come with the built in so had to purchase a Hayes-Lemmerz "Engage" after market unit from the Airstream dealer (the only one he carried). Only used this unit during a couple of trips South (probably about 5-6K miles total). Dealer installed the exact same unit to replace the bad one. We'll see how this one holds up. Know Tekonsha makes an excellent controller, not sure about the Hayes. They are about equal in price, if that means anything.
My GW has been very reliable. Did one slave brake cylinder replacement, one alternator replacement and replacement one set of timing belts since owning it. Rest of the maintenace was all routine stuff. Think this is typical of Honda motorcycles - just put gas in it and ride - and change oil regularly.
