how do you set timing
#17
To cardone,
....Under computer control, the timing is a floating value determined by the logic result of sensor inputs from air temperature, rpm CKP), coolant temperature (CHT), engine load indication (TPS) and Mass Air flow rates.
....There is no set value.
.....If you were to run a full time monitor you would see the timeing go all over the scale from 0 under heavey loadings to as high as 40 degrees under open EGR conditions and light trottle opening within a speed range..
.....Even steady RPM, then accellerstion the decelerstion will make the timing go all over the scale.
.....Cold start timing tends to run advaned. As the engine temperture heats the timimg retards on an average.
.....The big difference in these systems is that the coils are timed individualy and are fired when the PCM switch is 'commanded' to 'open', unlike a central control for one coil.
.....The individual coil control is the reason there is no set timeing value.
.....And you can see by this that there can be no set value or base timing as they call it.
Arn't computers wonderfull?
Good luck.
