If you have a e4od, then yes, if your speedometer is not properly calibrated, the shift points will be off. Calibrating mine fixed most, if not all my shifting issues.
Thanks for all the help. replacing the map got him up and going!!!! Pulls strong and the more i drive it the better he runs!! My gas gauge dosent work so not driving it much till i get that fixed. Its over drive that is still having issues. Ill tinker more tomorrow and post results. the truck sat for an extended . of time. The thing only has 44,000 on it. Im the second owner and very happy with it!!!!
Well ran codes today and got 311. after reading over other posts looks as if this is my problem. i havent done any trouble shooting as of yet. howerver upon inspection of components in this system i have discovered the fowling, 02 on driver side manafold has wires cut off cant find the plug for it, air pump is failing belt squeals when gas is applied or when engine is under heavy load squealing is from pump pully, air injection line has been cut off cat and welded shut. the truck is bogging down at low rpm and takes good stab of gas to get to pick up power. when in gear and stoped say in a drive-tru the idol jumps back and forth from around 500 1000. this happens after the truck has been running for a while and up to temp. if i put it in park and stab lightly on the gas idol goes back to normal untill i drive it over say 50 foot. I plan to install off road pipes and true dules in the near future. So question is can i bypass the air pump and what is required to do this? or if bypassing the pump isnt an option what about bypassing the cats. Thanks for the congrats!!!! Sorry for such a long posting but Im trying to give all the info on this in order to get the correct repair info
well I changed the egr on a whim and that seames to have fixed my problems!! Still doesnt shift as good as i would like but it runs great!! next is this sloppy steering box!!! Is red head steering gear my best bet? any one know how much one costs?
Another congrats is in order i guess. You can put in a shift kit down the road if it bugs you too much. As for steering, i would suggest making double sure it is the steering gear that needs replacing over something small like a Ragjoint on the steering shaft. I don't know much on the 91 steering setups but i have been learning a bit and there is a lot that can contribute to it. GreyStreak knows a lot about it and has been teaching me some things about TTB and that sort of stuff. I would have someone at the steering wheel turning it within it's slop zone and look around for anything out of place. This is all of course if you haven't already gone through that If so and it is the gear, it would be up to the more experienced guys on here to tell you about the redhead, i have heard it is good but i have never looked into it.
