i have a 2000 f150 4 dr slt 5.4 automatic 4x4. one key came with the vehicle (The $60 one for antitheft). I gave my key to my pregnant (9 months) wife and it is no where to be found. either my 3 yr old son got his hands on it or my wife did something with it. I have seached everywhere but no luck. I do have two keys that i had made before that will turn the ignition and unlock the doors but the antitheft won't alow it to start (the hareware guy did'nt know about the Ford antitheft key). Is there a way to disconnect the antitheft system. the dealer states I must tow the vehicle to them. I was in the process of installing a remote start - keyless entry but I did not get the chance to finish - been very busy at work and at home. any suggestions?
You're going to have to get it towed to the dealer
With no working keys they will have to hook up their scanner, do a 10 minute security access routine and then program both your keys.
And once you get two keys made you can buy unprogrammed keys and program them yourself for much less than the dealer will charge- but you have to have two keys to do it. It's explained in detail in the owners manual and I believe I've seen at least one post here describing the procedure.
I had it towed to a dealer - cost $100 + the tow but the good news is AAA will reimburse me $50 and part of the tow. thanks for the advice and I will look for thread on programing the additional keys
If you have 2 keys and want an additional, cycle programmed key one from off to run; cycle key 2 off to run , and then cycle your 3rd key from off to run. Wait about 15 seconds and all 3 keys should crank your vehicle..
I found my old key - my son took it to Sunday school and one of the teachers kept it for me but decided to wait a week before telling me --- anyway, I cannot self program my old key useing the owners manual method - is it possible to reprogram the origanal key after two new ones were programed ?
