adding modern AC
adding modern AC
with the 460 im building im going to put a serpentine kit on it and add modern AC. I found out who will make the lines but i need some more information. The compressor and clutch im looking at is from a 95 f250 460. my main question is the electrical plug on the clutch. How does this work? one positive and one negative right? Could i just hook it up to an on off switch and turn the switch on when i want AC or would that burn up the clutch? Any ideas or has anybody done a better conversion?
It would depend on whether you plan on a complete modern system, or just the compressor setup. If you keep the expansion valve you would only need the anti-icing switch on the evaporator, but you will need an R134a compatible receiver-dryer. If you plan on fitting an entire late system, you will need the cycling switch and possibly the high pressure cut-off switch.

With "engineering" of two different type systems into one, I am not the expert. I would refer to some one like old air products, they have a lot more experiance in this arena. Any aftermarket replacment drier has the compatible dessicant, so I would think maybe the compressor only route. and use the existing exp. valve control set. You will probably have to play with the probe location to achieve the best results with r134a.
thx for the info guys. this stuff is all to confusing for me. you give me the parts and i can hook them up for you but you give me a vehicle and tell me you want this done to it then im lost. lol
