Wow, that flathead is frikin beautiful. I just got an update on my engine. Waiting on lifters. I'm going all original so will have a more low key beauty. Got the mouse nests out of my seat and springs repaired and painted. New covers ordered. Still got a lot left to do but plugging away at it. Your engine pictures got me in the mood again. Think I'll head out to the garage. Greg M-47
Hey Oldmerc,
I love that engine - it would match my 1950 F1 just about perfectly!
Thanks for the Snow pics - we don't get to see much down in
Central Texas - didn't even come close this year.
I'm not super familiar with the older engines - Why does the flathead have so many bolts holding it together? It looks cool but it just seems like they had a sale on bolts...
Language sure didn't bother me - I'm a couple of years
older than you so we are in the same boat. Hang in there!
I wish I had painted our engine like you did - It looks great.
Mine looked so nice & shiny - now the water pump is starting to rust ....

In regards to the large number of cylinder head fasteners . Because the block deck is quite thin and weak and the heads are hollow and flexible ,the combustion chamber needs to be surrounded by close spaced low torque fasteners .
