Well I just pulled the egr valve and it appears closed. I am assuming closed is valve seated in rings?
Yes Sir
Valve seated in the Middle is closed
A bad Injector can Make things get spendy Fast so just try to figure out before you drive it again
Just didnt want to see ya make a BAD Problem Worse smoke that smells like diesel fuel is a pretty good indicator Bad injector or Injector seals gone
wouldn't a bad injector be more like a miss, but still be able to "drive" at speed?
I do appreciate the help and suggestions
Shure it could Fail like that normaly a failure like that would be the Intensifier plunger hanging up from Low Fuel Pressure would end up being more of a MisFire Not such a Big deal this way
But since Exhaust smoke smells like Raw Diesel Fuel
if it crackes a injector tip or spool valve hangs open it DUMPES Raw Fuel into the Cylinder
If this is the case its dumping Diesel fuel in at 50-60+PSI into the cylinder and will end up a Catastropic Failure if driven
so I re-cleaned the egr valve and reinstalled today. It won't even fire up today. Before I started it I checked codes and i had a 263 403 404 and 405 codes. the 400 codes are for the egr the 263 code was a cylinder 1 contribution/ balance fault.
My ficm is at 48v so I don't think that would be the issue. So now I am down to thinking I need to replace injector #1. Sound about right?
So here are my next questions. I was planning on replacing the oil cooler, stc fitting, dummy plugs, etc. I actually ordered all the parts thursday. So how hard is it to replace injectors? Should I take it to a shop or can I do this(loaded question I know). Should I take it to a shop and have them run diagnostics on it first to verify?
If your updating the standpipes and dummy plugs might as well fix the injector your right there, take the 9hex head bolts that bolt the hpo rail to the head take that out of the way your injectors will be right there.
It's probably your #1 injector since it threw that code. That one is not to bad to do.
