I got a plastic one with my clutch kit from napa. Maybe check when you order the clutch. I got the clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing along with the plastic alignment tool. It was a sweet setup, but of course it was all chevy, because that's what my cummins bellhousing was set up for......Don't see why napa doesn't do this for fords. One stop shopping.

Tried to start the motor.

Nothing - Starter relay gave up the ghost I guess.

Jumper cable from freshly charged battery to the starter post.

Slow, lumpy starter. Swap starters.

Try again... starter fluid... gas in bowl... choke on.

Nothing.

Spark? Might as well swap out old for new dist'y. Alreay swapped in new coil and wires.

Try again... nothing.

This motor Gary sent me is crap. Grrrr...

Wait, did I swap in the rotor? Nope.

Try again. Vroooooommmmmmmm!!! Sounds great! No smoke!

WOOHOO!!!

So, my engine problem is sorted out in a little less then three months. Now to get back to the body work, wiring, glass and a little paint.

Glad you were able to get it out of that piano crate!

It's always a rush to hear an engine come to life!

Hate to say it...A good motor is easy, you just bolt it in. Body work, paint, wiring ... this stuff is a long term pain in the a**. I'm on the road, but I still don't have a horn or a dimmer switch, and I need to weld in new metal on one door and one fender. But whatever... when it's all done and a finished product, if I know myself like I think I do, I'll be on craigslist like before, typing in 'ford truck'.........Glad you got it fired up!!!

Quick question for the experts - where does the top hose from the radiator overflow tank connect? I've got the bottom hose properly connected to the radiator cap fitting, but I can't remember where the top hose goes, and there's no obvious fitting visible on the radiator.

My rad and overflow tank are non-stock (installed by PO), but I have to assume the fittings and hoses are the same.

Thanks for any help.

Larry I'm no expert. But Jegs sells a can that acts like a recvery or expansion tank.

Heres their instructions! It may not be the same as yours, but its something to do until an expert comes along.
Good luck in your quest.

I don't think I have ever seen a bottom overflow hose. The top hose goes into an expansion tank on onto the ground. On my stock rad, I keep the level down to where it wants to be so that it can expand inside the top tank and not have to come out of the overflow hose, as there is not an expansion tank. If I fill it to the top just beneath the cap it will push it all out and then tell me "I told you so", so I just give it room to move where it wants to.

This hose comes off the top of the overflow tank, and you've helped me realize that it must just drain to the ground.

Thanks!

"This hose comes off the top of the overflow tank, and you've helped me realize that it must just drain to the ground."

Correct! It was a kit someone added to stop the little puddle that inevitably forms under the truck from the cap vent or to help with a "runs hot" situation in warm weather. With the overflow tank you can fill the radiator to the top and any expansion will find it's way into the overflow tank, then back into the radiator when it cools down.
