The Isuzu Duramax? Whats that?

You mean the Duramax that is built by Dmax? Dmax is a joint venture between Isuzu and GM with GM owning the majority. Don't kid yourself into thinking that the Duramax is an Isuzu designed and manufactured engine that GM just so happens to use.

Isuzu was the brains behind the 6.6l Duramax diesel. There is a reason GM got Isuzu to team up with them. I'm just glad they are building them here in the states.

It's not uncommon to find stress cracks in the front section of the frame on the 88 and newer IFS GM trucks that are using snow plows. They are typically found right behind the rear most upper control arm mount. I have seen several situations where the frame rail broke right off in this area, and that was on 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton models. As for the locking differential that GM uses, it's a joke too... it's the G80 code "Gov Loc". Also known as "Gov Bomb" These so called lockers in order to lock in require a difference in speed from one wheel to another in order to kick in. It's not uncommon to see these launch through the cover and splatter on the ground. All it takes to destroy a Gov Loc is getting stuck and mashing the gas a little too hard then BOOM! Pieces and parts everywhere! Tough trucks huh?

We live in the snow belt...western Canada. I had a G 80 locker and my son has one in his truck. Never seen one BOOM...hmmnnn.

Anyone seen the ads Ford did in the 80s where they threw a Chevy across the bed of an F250 ad pulled a Dodge up mountain all at the same time? I laughed at how fake it was but got an even bigger laugh when Chevy tried to pull a foam mountain with all 3 trucks on it with an 88 1500 and clearly no weight pushing down on the back of the truck haha. Outdoing each other will go on for years.
