Been a while since I posted as the trucks been running great, week or so ago as I exited the off ramp coasted to the stop light, waited a minute as traffic was heavy, hit the go pedal and all I heard was the motor spooling up, went no where, forward or reverse, no warning what so ever, the E4OD was toast, went to a very reputable tranny shop and had it completely rebuilt, pump and torque converter were toast.. New solenoid pack etc... everything inside was replaced. Decided to go a little more HD on the torque converter as I tow a 26' travel trailer quite frequently. Got the truck back and 10 miles later I'm in limp mode, took er back, thought maybe the VSS was bad, replaced that and still a day later I'm in limp mode with the OD light flashing. Only code I'm pulling is torque converter slipping. Sitting at the shop and we are both at odds, I say the new torque converters not right because after we reset the computer and we get it up to speed the tach never settles down at about 60 mph, wanders by as much as 100 rpms on the flats.. Never get more than 20 miles and it's back in limp mode.. Not much else to replace, any ideas???
^^2X You spent enough on that rebuild. They need to stand behind their installation now. That's why you took it to the professionals. What are they saying it is? I am curious why they wouldn't stand behind it if it obviously has issues.
It's already there and they have been great, it'll get fixed one way or another and he said they would make it right! Just wondered if anybody else had found any hidden snags.... Checked everything I possibly could, lights, harnesses etc... Everything worked great right up till the second the pump decided to detonate into pieces..... Which leads me to believe the torque converters not right.....
There are a couple things that can affect TC lockup on the trans (tail and brake lights mainly) and the TRS (Transmission Range Sensor) can make things go a little wonky too, but none of those should put the trans into limp mode. If it is going into limp mode, it has seen something it didn't like and has stored a code. They should be able to pull the code and then they will know where to go from there.
From your description the torque converter is not locking. If it were a sensor or wiring problem you would also get a code for that. To only have a converter slip code and no other code means a hardware problem. It could be a damaged seal on the input shaft, that's really easy to do when assembling the converter to the trans. A small cut in the seal and the converter won't ever lock. I've seen it happen.

You may be right on the hardware end of this thing, just got off the phone with him and he said that the place that sent him parts had sent him the wrong pump, mines a non-pwm pump and they had sent and he installed a pwm pump for a 98 and newer?? eveidently the outsides the same on both but internally it's a different animal..Make sense?? Mines on the rack right now and hopefully I'll have it back by lunch 2mro, he's gonna drive it for an hour or so and see if it goes back into limp mode before he'll let me have it..
Harsh doesn't even cover half of it, weird experience, OD light starts flashing and everything is fine till she wants to down shift to 3rd, feels like a neutral drop, still shifts to all gears up or down but very very hard!! Reset the computer and she has never shifted so nicely till it senses clutch slip and goes into limp mode again, hope it shifts this nice with the right pump...
Well, the pump didn't solve anything, still doing the same thing, service guy called around couple different shops and there all agreeing the Torque Converters not right, he's got another one on the way, but it'll be monday afternoon before we can see if this solves the problem.....
