I am about 2 weeks away from ordering my Reese Elite 18k hitch. For those of you who did not get it with your truck, did you have to purchase the adapter kit #58419 to go along with the hitch? Also, where did you purchase from, I was going to get it from Tweety's, but their price jumped from about $860 to $1215 over the last month. I am still seeing it on other sites with favorable ratings for about $950. I still have a couple of weeks to get my research in, so maybe the price won't go up on the other sites. I am only interested in the Reese, unless some other manufacturer has come out with something that will fit the factory prep. Thanks in advance for any information and advice
B&W also makes one for the factory prep. I opted for the Reese Elite 18K and no, you don't need an adapter. The adapter is for the previous Signature Series hitches. I got mine for around $800 but it was off season. I'm seeing what you are seeing currently with them selling for about $942. Best thing you can do is find your best price, buy from etrailer.com, and use their 110% low price guarantee. Then you get the best price on the net plus an additional 10% off. That's how I got to $800. Amazon was at $860, I bought from etrailer, and the credit of 110% of the difference brought me to around $800. Oh, and you will come out further ahead when you sell the wiring that comes with the Elite on eBay. You won't need it as your 5th prep comes with it from Ford. I got $75 for mine, so that brought my price to $725 for the Elite 18K!!!
I got mine from Amazon, but I checked the other day and their price jumped as well. I think they realized that the profit that was being missed.
Where are you located? After I posted about buying mine, there was a guy that had a new one in the box that he wanted to unload. That was a couple of months ago though.
I am in East Tennessee, Tri Cities area. Thanks Karl4Cat for the tip. I will not be able to order it for a couple of weeks, just hope the price does not jump everywhere!
I got the B&W OEM Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch from RV Parts Country in London,Ky.I don't know whether you are close enough to drive and pick it up,saving you shipping costs. It was very easy to install and works great. Here's the web site if I did it right.
Thanks reliefman! I have heard a lot of good things about B&W, but did not know they had made a hitch to fit the Ford prep. I guess now I have a decision to make. Sooooo, to those of you that have or have had the Reece Elite and those with the B&W, what are your thoughts. If the prices hold, there is only about $100 difference between the two, and I think both are quality hitches, so I would like to know the good and especially the bad about each please.

LOL, you've heard of it before relifman's post. I posted it!!! Anyways, don't over think the decision. You can't go wrong with either. I bought the Reese as they are the one's who make Ford's factory prep. Plus, I've had good experiences with their products in the past. No experience with B&W but everyone seems to love them. Get either and forget the debate. When you get to the top of the line, they are all winners....

I've now had experience with both. I have the factory Reese hitch in my truck. I can honestly say that if the B&W were available to fit in the factory 5th wheel prep when I bought the truck, I would have gotten the B&W. The Reese seems much more finicky when trying to connect and especially when disconnecting. When connecting, the latch bar has a tendency to prematurely close before properly hooked up. Even when trying to release, the latch has a tendency to re-close before separation is complete.
Maybe I'm just not used to it yet, but the B&W seems to be a lot easier to use.
I had my dealer have one installed prior to me picking up the truck. The cost was about the same as me buying straight out. I would have then needed to pay for the installation. So it worked out well.
I had one in a 2008 Dodge 3500 cummins
I now have one in my 2011 F-350 (with factory Prep)
Very solid!! I have both GooseNeck & 5th Wheel capability. When the 5th wheel "Companion" is out of the bed...... The truck bed is completely flat & available. The 5th wheel Companion is adjustable for highth and fore & aft.
Sorry Karl4Cat, with the excitement of getting a new toy and the end of a long day, I missed a big thank you to you about the B&W. I know both of these are good hitches, I research everything I buy, from Automobliles to flashlights to ball point pens. Just the way I am wired.
just got finished installing mine...
It is not the OEM...I have a turnoverball gooseneck on my truck. Spent a little over an hour on it and got to try out the brand new torch wrench. I love it.
