Please------ somebody tell me how to stop this constant dinging when the door is open and the key is in the ignition switch. There has GOT to be a way. Thanks muchly.
There is a little button switch down by where the door hinge is, all you have to do is put some super glue in it, and shut the door. I wouldnt do it, since it also controls the dome lamp, but if it really annoys you that much, go for it. Have fun!
the problem is the door ajar switch in the lacth of the door, it get s stuck and the computer thinks the door is open. It a $10 part at a dealer and cost about a hundred for them to put it on. Not a tuf job to do yourself, just have to pull the door panel off and reach back by the latch and the lower wiring harness needs to be removed and the switch replaced
My door switch is bad, so I experienced a constant chime even with the door being closed... The way that I "fixed" it was to disconnect the chime on my '92 Ranger XLT... It was a fairly large connector located behind the AshTray... I also have heard about a connector undeneath the driver's seat, but I was unable to find it... Hope this helps, cause super-glue is permenant, this could be temporary...
Personally, i would just open the door and let it chime until you can centrilize the chime, once you find it (may hafta take the dash trim off), just clip the wire if its soddered on, or if its just a connection, just disconnect it. Hope it helps, mine got annoying too, however, lol, i just left the door open for a long time one day (not intentionally), and came back, lol, i guess the stupid thing chimed itself out, now it doesnt work. But warning... this does make it easy to lock your keys in the truck, or leave your lights on in the daytime.
thats a good way to ruin your truck, fix the cause, not whats bothering you. the problem is the door ajar switch in the latch assembly, fix this and it will fix your problem. if you take the chimer out you wont have a warning for your headlight being left on or your keys in the ignition.
To the orginal poster, on my truck I put in a relay off of the alarm system that allows me, with the push of a button, to turn on the radio with the doors open and the key in my pocket, so I end up with no ding ding ding. When I close the door, 30 seconds later the radio turns off and the alarm arms and locks the doors.
