The ring spreads the load accross the bearing on the DMF setup.
I saved my ring anyways, its kinda cool.
Tip for you though.
Cut the end off 2 of the old bolts then round off the heads.
Screw them in a bit on the crank and then slide the flywheel into place. =)
Get a bolt or 2 in there and then turn the pins out.

Damn good tip! We do that at work with a huge center bearing on scoops. The thing weighs probably 500 lbs. atleast and has I think 30 some 3/4" inch bolts. I did just what you're saying, cut the heads off and made guide pins. Didn't even think about doing that for a flywheel!!! Thanks bud!!
Be sure to slowly work your way around on the PP, dont just tighten one bolt all the way down and then go to the next.
wanna try and compress the spring a little at a time so you dont damage the clutch.

Yeah, I got the flywheel and clutch in, the trans back in, and the down pipe and all the 4" straight pipe cut to fit and ready to go in. I gotta weld my "dummy cat" to the pipe and make some hangers and the exhaust is done. I'll get that done tomorrow evening then get the t-case and drive shafts back in, do all the fluids, change the fuel filter and I'm ready to roll!
