Can someone shed me some light on axle ratios? Most stock 2012 F-250s come with the 3.31 ratio, but my dealer suggested that if I am going to pull a trailer then I might consider ordering with 3.55 ratio? Any suggestions here guys??

Would you expect that with such variety of uses, Ford would put more gears into their trucks? I am pretty annoyed that my F450 is geared to take all freeway grades on the highest gear even weighting 16,000 lb. But than with 2WD I love the low gear that lets me move everything everywhere.
On my F250 with lower differential ratio I have to turn transfer case to low maneuvering on my driveway, because the 1st gear on high is pretty lousy and that with 7.3l that is famous for huge torque at idle.
So for your situation start with answering if you are talking 4WD with low transfer case gearing or 2WD.
If you have the second, you better get higher differential gearing, because nothing sucks more than getting to a steep grade that you have no gearing for.
Years ago I took my friends in small motorhome on Toyota chassis up to Lombard Street in San Francisco. Was doing fine on 1st with my gas pedal firmly on the floor till some A%*8 stopped me at the intersection. Than I could not move forward anymore. Good thing my friend had a pretty cool head and jump out to direct traffic around me, so I could back up into the cross street. We went to Lombard St on foot.
