Rear End Ratio?

I have a new to me 1971 F-100 4x4 with a 360 and what i believe is an np435 mated to a dana21... I dont want to open the axle up to find my rear end ratio. All tags are gona...

Anyone have any idea what my R&P ratio probably is?

Jack it up, turn pinion and count tire revolutions. Should be easy to tell what it is.

I tried that but which tire do I count from? They turn at different speeds.

Actually each tire turns at the same speed because the ratios front and rear have to be almost even, say 4.10 to 4.09, or 3.50 to 3.54. If they didn't, your transfer case would be destroyed from the difference in ratios. Also read the warranty tag on the left door, or the warranty sticker on the door pillar under the striker post for the axle code if they haven't been changed.

Well, better yet, spin the pinion and count the tire revolutions. Doing it the other way usually ends up spinning in opposite directions and will cause irratic readings(due to differential gears). I'm used to spools and tight limited slips which won't have those issues.

If it's an open rear, they will spin on oppposite directions(due to differential) if you spin the tires,. If it does have a limited slip, then it's slipping for some reason(brakes tighter on one side?).

The right rear & left front are the drive wheels. lock left front hub turn once, count turns of drive line should do it for your ratio count...The rear will be the ssame ratio.
