Ok I'll probably get it then. Here's the pic of the sticker. There's some over spray on it a little bit of it.

OK...here is what I got...had trouble with some of the paint and trim code...but you can probably look at it and see what color it is

VIN: F14FCGD6428 (Last year of the 11 digit VINs0
F14 Seris Code 1980 Pick up
F Engine Code 302 (5.0 liter) 2 barrel
C Assembly Plant Ontario Truck
GD6428 Numerical sequence number (this number lies in the 1980 range)

Rest of tag:
2K exterier color Teal (this is where I had issues...I could not find a "K" for 1980)
9A Black (was your truck a 2 tone?)
WB 133 Wheel base
Type-GVW F143 1980 6350# F150 4WD
Body:
DD interior trim from what I could find it was red vinyl (but that wouldn't go very well with teal
4 body type regular cabe syleside
Trans K C6 auto
Axle H2 Ford 3.50 Limited slip
the last 2 you cannot see due to paint is "Tape" and "Spring" which tells you the front spring type

I always wanted to know if I had a C6.

My interior is actually red, I think the truck was red cause the inside of the doors are ed. My seats are purple and white leather ha ha like lowrider style that was from the past owner(s)

I think when I bought my distrib cap it was for a grand torino and it fit.

Is the 3:50 the gears?

And thanks for taking the time to do that.

Why is it that when people are posting photobucket pictures recently (especially of their door jamb stickers), I only see a small version about the size of a matchbook?

In any event, yes, my bolts are inserted from below and the nuts placed on from the top.

From the pictures I can see, your bolts look to be doing this:

\ /

I have no idea what this part is you're wanting to buy, the thing somebody told you that you don't need, looks like Kevin has got ya covered, though.

I think that is right...I had read somewhere else that the code 2K if for Candy Apple Red. Not sure why I couldn't find that in the bood though.

Yes the 3.50 is the gear ratio. Very common, and very good ratio. You also have a limited slip...which for a 4x4 is not surprising.

for the distributor cap....there's only a few different distributors ford used and many of them would swap from different engines. So if you got one for a torino it would fit anything with that engine. For the most part...there are probably some exceptions. Year does make a difference though as ford went through different generation of ingnition system.

You should have the DS II (Dura Spark) in yours.

It looks like you do.

On mine, the bolt head is facing the front of the vehicle/ground, the threaded portion is facing the firewall/windshield.

Duraspark I/II is electronic ignition, it replaces points & condenser.

The pickup in the distributor instructs the module when to fire the coil.

On a standard (ofter referred to as an "Open") differential, you only drive one wheel through the ring and pinion...bet you didn't know only one wheel was getting power on the vast majority of vehicles out there did ya?

On a limited slip, there is a clutch pack in the carrier that will direct power to the other axle (wheel) when the driven wheel starts to spin, or lose traction. The difference in speeds between the 2 will engage the clutches and now you are driving both wheels.

Very nice on a 4x4 obviously as you are wanting max traction.

The whole idea is to get power to both wheels instead of just one, for improved traction. GM calls theirs Posi-traction.

The 3.50 gear ratio you have is the ratio of how many times the input (drive shaft) spins in relation to the output (wheels). In your case, the drive shaft will turn 3.5 times for every revolution of the wheel. The higher the number, the lower the gear. 3.50 gears are a very good compromise of being low enough of a gear to get good low end performance and still maintain drivability and economy.

Race cars will use a very low gear (higher number). My old mustang ran a 5.83 gear but they go much lower then that. About the most I would ever run on the street is a 4.11...which is what I ran on my late model (2007) Mustang
