Removed my air pump and all the associated parts today. Went to screw in the plugs on the back of the heads to plug up the thermactor ports. Started with the driver side since access is the easiest and couldn't get it started. Grabbed a mirror and flashlight and the port isn't threaded. Looks like there is a sleeve or something in the hole.
Has anybody else had this issue? Truck is a 93 F250 but it looks like the engine has been changed out some time in the past. It's a 94 stamped block and the engine sticker on the driver side valve cover is coded May of 95.
On my truck I had the same issue... I went ahead and plugged the ports with an oversize bolt surrounded by JB weld putty. After an hour, it hardened to a rock... problem solved.
yeah,no threads on mine either,I tried several different bolts were the size everyone said they were,I even went and bought the plugs made for this purpose. I was trying to do it with the engine in the truck and couldn't see,so I didn't realize there weren't threads in the holes until too late. I just put the tube that crosses between the heads back on and plugged it at the top where the hose used to come out. no leaks since then.
Doin the same thing right now,my 5.0 HO had threaded holes my 5.8 H in my truck doesn't.I used a cut off wheel and cut the tubes off right at the block that bolts to the head , found a bolt that would fit snugly in that hole and cut it off flush and then welded it up.I have the drivers side done but am having a terrible time getting the pass side done, big hands ,no room , can't see! Any ideas?
Thanks all for the replies. CJBEN, I think I'm going to do what you did. Went and bought a bolt last night and will plug up the hose above the check valve.
racecat, I bought the smog pump eliminator bracket and was done with it. Didn't want to mess with the "which belt do I need" and all the other potential B.S. that went along with it. They can be bought for 50-60 bucks. Proform part is 68110.
