I'd be embarrassed to show my work in progress truck. Would they have to be show quality only, or beaters and works in progress? Sounds really cool to see a fleet of dentsides and meet other owners. Maybe if there's enough interest someone like DC or NPG or some of the other parts manufacturers would come to the show too, one stop shopping
Ive been hoping for a club meet for a while now too. But, Florida just might be too far to travel. If someone wants somthing more central I think I could pull something like that off.
thatsrealnice,
It would be open to everybody, my truck is a work in progress too, well it will be when I get home. I hope it is more a gear/ truck head get together than a look how much money I spent.
In your case we could have an ugliest truck award... I better hurry and get to work on mine cause i would be in the running..
I love my Camaro but I have more fun driving the non working AC, loud and beat up truck. I get more looks in the truck- not sure if that is good or bad
GTGs are tough to pull together. Me and a few FTE'ers managed to meet up last August:
They are indeed hard to put together. (That was a fun GTG last summer!) It was really nice to network with other great guys and gals and talk trucks and whatever.
If there was a annual Dent Fest I would plan my vacation time to attend and make a road trip out of it. I'm fairly used to travel but just not in my truck so I would pace myself and stop and smell the roses a lot on the way to the Dent Fest.
Another thing to consider is the cost of fuel and the fact that some peoples trucks might not be in "long road trip" condition.
I am in that catagory right now, The earliest I could do go to anything would be spring next year. Still deployed, then time with family, then work on truck, got an Army school to go too. Yep spring next year.
Cost of fuel is indeed a factor. With both tanks full I could do about 380ish miles before filling up. Figure about $4.50 a gallon it's $170 to fill up. Worst case I'm looking at a grand just in fuel cost. Is it a killer on dent fest maybe but I'll agree with Chief next year is looking better for the first dent fest. The truck will be done late summer but won't be ready for a long haul.
I've hosted a few "Meets" with my Ford car club. It really is a hard thing to get stated and planned. With the date of the event 1 year out, it took me over 5 months of planning and calling and taking advice and help from others just to get the thing off of the ground. We planned for 120 vehicles and ended up with 35. Money was spent "hosting" and to get locations "legalalized" so we wouldn't have the cops shut us down. Add in gas, hotel and other activities and over $1300 was spent the first time only to have 1/3 of the people show up. Money wasted. If you're thinking about asking people for donations or fees up front, more than half won't bother because they have no idea if they have the gas money alone much less a deposit for a hotel or anything else.
My advice would be to get a true "starter" thread going to gauge interest and ideas. Have it stickied. Maybe even get a few sponsers to post up if possible. In this starter thread, have the place, dates and times already figured out. No one can attend everything at anytime so there will be tons of people asking to change the date or the place.....don't budge. Stick to the origional plans. You won't please everyone. At that point you can then start inquiring about the activities people would want to see or do. From there just plan the times and activities accordingly to the time frame for the meet and let the rest happen at will. Not everything will be perfect but people will do what they want to no matter how or what you plan.
