is it worth it

well this guy i have been taking to about buying a 87 f150 for parts just to have around. well the truck like i said is an 87 he says the od reads 18xxxx and motor which is good for me the grand 300 straight 6 with 4spd which i could use if i had too. he said the motor is got 98xxx and it runs amazing. the differentials box doors and fenders are gone. it has a 4inch body lift cab is complete exept doors and has a new windsheild and cab is desent. says he can easily get 450 for scrap but i would like to know what scrap yard is paying that for half a truck. im thinking 300 at most. you can get a bout 450-500 for a complete truck. says if if he dont sell it too me hes gonna scrap it. he said he will deliver it to my house if i pay 500 for it. i would like to offer him 400 with the dilivery and if some of the parts off the truck he used the good parts for will come with it but i seem to be getting a hard time to get him to answer that. im still waiting on pics. it came from ma and the girl that owned it last say she put a lot of money into it but hit somthing in the front and didnt fix it. he says motor runs funominal and all the drivetrain is there and i can get the title not that i would fix it anyhow. i just had to see a ford truck with any good parts get destroyed especially if i ever needed anything. so what do you think.

Nobody here will tell you to scrap it, but you're basically disassembling it, so it's pretty much the same, right?. I hope you talk him down on the price, the parts are worth way more than what he's asking if the truck runs right.

A good running 300 around here will cost you $450. The new leaf springs will set you back $400. A tow will cost you $75. I wouldn't loose the truck for $100.

Take off what you need, then part out the rest. Scrap it in the end, you will make back your money

I have paid anywhere between $100 to $1000 for parts trucks. Usually the 4x2's bring around $300, 4x4 's around $600. once in a while I luck out, and get a keeper to put on the road.

A scrap yard by me pays $14 a hundred lbs for a COMPLETE vehicle.
And $11 a hundred for a incomplete vehicle.
With the parts missing of the truck like you said, I cant see it weighing more than 4000 AT MOST, if not 3000
So 40 x 11= $440

You would have to find out what the scrap yards by YOU are payiong

Pay him the $450 then scrap it once you get off what you need.

I just talked to him earlyer. Seems like a nice guy and he knows some of my realatves. He says its got a high performance napa engine in it that runs perfect and 4 ich body lift which he says i should beable to make my money back on. Im probly not going to scrap any good parts. Ill keep what i want and thats is compatable with my truck and sell the rest. I do think it is worth a little more now.
