rear end options

I am wanting to change out my rear end. I am not sure which one i have but the truck is 94 f150 l6 with E4OD. rear end is bad, and im heading to the junk yard to get another one. I figured i would try the 9 inch as everyone says its the best. How do i tell which one it is and does it just swap in?

Your best option might be to rebuild the 8.8" you have. A 9" should bolt up but they don't have provisions for the toner ring and speed sensor which allows your E4OD to shift properly.

Before you just run out and buy another axle check your axle code on the door tag and decide if you want to keep that same ratio, go lower for more pulling/hauling grunt, or go taller for better highway mpg. If you have a 4x4 then you need to keep the ratio the same as you have now or change the front ratio as well. Also axle codes the start with a C are limited slip diffs and codes that start with a number are open diff.

I wouldn't bother swapping in a 9" for the reasons mentioned above because you probably don't need the extra strength, unless you want to rip out the whole drivetrain and build something radical.

What burnout said is right, as long as you own a 2wd, if you own a 4wd front and rear ratios should be matched.
