What a day!

Drove 17hrs to and from to look at a 61 F100 4x4' only to fine out it been wreck and frame adhoc back together. Oh by the way we took a 78 supercab and I rode in the back seat. My knees are shot from 20 years on jump status and plus 11 years of fire fighting; but the trip was priceless; due to the company I rode with! Glad to be home!

Jump Status?? Do I hear the words of a fellow Paratrooper?? I was 3/504, until shattered feet sent me home.

Peeps complained about the low rear bench used on Super Cabs from day one, so...

In the late 1970's, FoMoCo came out with an accessory "Hi-Setter" kit for Super Cabs with the rear bench seat. Was only available at the parts counter. This kit raised the rear seat up 4 inches.

At the same time, FoMoCo also came out with accessory (parts counter only) lockable tool box and lockable gunsafe (!). The Hi Setter kit was requred, because both fit under the rear bench seat.

Mitch: If you think the low rear bench seat is uncomfortable (without the Hi Setter-it's a bit better with it), Super Cabs were also available with two jump seats that folded out from the right/left sides.

These jump seats may be comfortable for kiddies or adults of Billy Barty size to sit on, but they sure aren't comfortable for anyone else. Horrid, an abomination...what was FoMoCo thinking?!

What a small world; I was with the 2/325 81 -86, then 509th ABN INF Retired 1SG myself; thanks for serving Broomfieldbum. Those old rear seat daze are for the youngin's.

Bill; I don't have your height but I'm a biscuit shide of 250 now. lol (That high setter would of been nice.)

The truck was for a buddy who's been wanting a 4x4 flareside side and it didn't pan out; but we had a good time cruisin down and back.

Thanks Vic; I've always wanted a 4x4 myself in this era; had a orphan 59 4x4' will be hopefully using a slick camper special on a highboy chassis as my next 4x4.

with a coupla exceptions...
Former USA paratrooper most likely affected with Major Buttsore after sitting with your knees at the same height as your chest during 17 hour cruise. Didn't do your knees any good either.

If I tried this, would need a cherry picker (engine hoist) to get oughtta that back seat! Both knees arthritic, one has more bone chips than a small town "marble orchard." Back afflicted with spinal stenosis, 6-5, 300 lbs.

I installed a Hi-Setter kit in my 1979 F150 Stupor Cab, but not because I planned to sit back there. Installed accessory gun safe at the same time.

Rules of the Airborne,

If you were a Paratrooper you have one of a few things.

1) Bad Knees
2) Bad Feet (Me)
3) Bad Ankles
4) Bad Back

Many have combos, but all who were paratroopers have one of all of them.

Congenital Spinal Stenosis: Narrower channels than normal between lower vertabrae, nerves pass thru them. Bend one way or another, vertabrae pinch nerves, right or left leg goes numb, you then fall down if you aren't prepared.

Not pleasant, been affected by this since 1993. Had to retire in 1997 because of it, cost me my 90 + grand yearly salary. Hips also affected, both my two (younger than I) sisters have had both hips replaced, TWICE.

Spinal stenosis eventually turns feet numb (mine are tingling as I type) then begins to affect hands, then arms. So, you don't need to be a paratrooper to be affected by all four if you have spinal stenosis.

When peeps age, their lower vertabrae tends to become fused together. Expensive surgery can correct this, recovery time usually between 12-18 months. But if you have spinal stenosis, why bother?

There are a couple of nice looking 63 F250 4x4 slicks on Spokane CL. If I had more space one or both would belong to me. Just dont have anywhere to keep them. Dont know Mitch it might be worth it to buy it here and find someone to haul it back to you. They look stock so if anyone has an interest I will go out and take a closer look for you and get more pics if needed.

Why build one since Ford made them? 1967/76 F250 4WD, 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001 are all considered High Boys.

Were available as a Cab & Chassis, Flareside or Styleside pickup, Crew Cab, or w/a factory installed Flat or Stake Bed.

There are no Super Cab High Boys, as FoMoCo never offered them.

I guess I've never thought about these options; and was considering getting a supercab front end and a short bed and build on my already 76 highboy chassis.

Vic; thanks for offering to look; I would do the same for anyone around my area as well; I view some cl list yall's way; shipping isn't to bad.
