Need Help
I've got a problem with my 04, 6.0TD, Excursion.
Couple months ago, I had a problem with EGR, it was dramatically sad. I was on the road at night, with a severe frost outside at a distance to closest city around 150 miles. I had collected all "benefits". Problem with EGR was fixed, finally, I run my truck from service, passed around 100 miles, everything was Ok, only lit bit more smoke at exhaust. Suddenly it started to work worse, like some of the cylinders was out of work. I was in similar situation, out of city, night, winter, all the best You can to image.
I had passed 150 miles, and engine was stopped. Since this time I can not to start it. I had changed O-rings for all 8 fuel injectors, fuel pressure is 3,8-4,0 Bar, cylinder compression is OK, Oil pressure OK, air supply OK. May be someone can give me an idea, what I have to check. Tommorow I will try to remove catalisator.
Please help. I'am outside US and Canada. In our services boys has not so deep expierence with US made cars.
It could be many possible causes. What color is the smoke that you see? My first guess would be the FICM, but it is only a guess until you have more diagnostic information.
The FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module) is located on top of the driver's side (in the US we drive in the left seat) valve cover in the engine compartment. It is a small silver computer that controls the injectors. These are known for problems with the electronic components having failures and for poor solder connections internally. They can be replaced or repaired.
Of course you should check your fluids also. Be sure there is no oil in your coolant, and there is no fuel or coolant in your engine oil.
Do you have any more information on the EGR problem that was fixed? Was it a dirty EGR valve, or a bad EGR cooler?
You may want to move this discusion to the 6.0 threads, there are many very good technicians on there. Let us know more information and I will help if I can.
