New manifold studs

I am having the exhaust manifold studs replaced this week. Has any one come up with a way to stop this from happening again. I live in Canada so road salt is a killer. I am using Factory studs and nuts

This was the solution I came up with last year...enjoy the read! It was an interesting debate. Whether or not they're gonna be good for the long haul, I don't know...but after a year, they look great, and no leaks...so far!

Good luck...

S.S. exhaust studs

There is a Ford TSB number 09-22-8 that lists the s.s. stud by part number. It is W703902-S403. If you go to the Ford parts counter, you will get a different number because they look them up in the parts book, not the TSB.
I just had to do mine, and while doing them I had one refuse to come out. Drilled, beat, torched, and cussed till I was blue in the face. Machinist to whom I took the head said not to use the s.s. studs, waste of money and too brittle. He also said the 8mm studs are just plain too small to hold that long manifold tight against the head during the heat cycling.
I would also seriously recommend having the manifolds checked for warpage. I had carried one to him with the head and he measured it right in front of me. He bolted it tight at one end and the gap at the other end was over .040". Yup, that's spark plug gap sized warpage (#2 and #3 were high). He flattened it out and I brought the other the next day, almost as bad. He machined them on a huge belt sander type machine, $100 each. Result is no leaks, even at a 40 degree cold start.
