Im going to build a 460 and I want to use flat top pistions but I only want to end up with 9.5 to 1 compression. Which head should I look for to achieve this? Thanks for any help Leadmic
Depends on which valve train you want, rail rockers (can be adjusted for lifter preload with the addition of a locking nut) would be C8XX, C9XX or DOVE with 78cc combustion chanbers.
Skip D2VE, the only open chamber 385 head and prone to detonation above stock compression.
D3VE has pedestal rockers and with the exception of using shims under the pedestals, is not adjustable. Combustion chambers are 96-98cc.
If its going to be a street engine, any of the heads (except D2VE) will be fine. Use pistons to achieve yourdesired compression ratio.
