Duane,
This is the setup I have on the back of my camper, it works very nice for keeping an eye on my toys while I'm bouncing down the road. The display has 3 inputs, so I have one camera on the back of the 5er, one above the rear bumper and another built into the middle headrest of the back seat.

Link to that monitor and camera please...

Here you go.

Amazon.com: cabcam
or
http://www.belarusagsupply.com/Cab-Cam-Kits_c_8.html

I started out with the CC7M1C kit and then added 2 cameras.

Are you too "long" ? here in Texas I think it's 60 or 65 ft... and a hitch on the back would take some pin weight off while adding to gcwr !
I fabed the hitch, it's two pieces of 6" channel, 9' lg. welded to the frame and then an 8' piece of 1/4" tk. 4" x 4" tube. It's a little overkill, but it works.
When I had my '05 SC, LB I was 60' - 1". With the crew cab I'm almost 63'. The only state (that I am planning to travel to, or through) that I am over length in is Illinois, which also has the lowest speed limit and is run by criminals.
I just checked the new 2012 Trailer Life Directory and Texas is 65'.
IL = 60', MO = 65', KS= 65', CO = 75', UT = 65'

You would be amazed how much better the 5er tows with that little trailer hitched up. It keeps it from wagging when there's a crosswind.

Here's a handy little bookmark to keep around:

State Towing Laws for RVs

Come to WY and you could drag an extra 22 feet! Once you get here anyway.

I had a receiver put on the back of my previous 5er. It was a Montana Mountaineer. Cost me around $400 to have a local fab shop build it. I hooked up to my 6 x 12 utility trailer one time and the wife said, "what in the world are you doin?" Then a buddy of ours was hooking his ATV trailer to the back of his 5er and knocked his knee sideways out of whack. Wife said come on, we're going toyhauler shopping.

I like the extra cameras. I'm going to have to look into that little mod.

Really...did you have to bring up the "toy hauler" issue.....again....you're killin' me...

And the winner is.....WY - 85 feet!!! That's awesome! I hate Illinois. It would be very easy to move to Wyoming, I'd only have to bring half my stuff, the other half I would lose in the divorce.

BTW - Thanks for the link.

The headrest cam is a nice touch. I can't see my hitch because of a toolbox.
Right now I use a magnetic pencil (pickup tool) and just stick it on the center of the hitch saddle. The pin box pushes it out of the way when I connect.

I cam would be better though.

Ideally, I would like 3 cams with an input to a factory style monitor mirror.

Front like you have, something so I can see the hitch and one on the back of the toy hauler.

Having it in the mirror would mean I could leave ti on all the time when towing.

I have the factory nav with cam to cover that aspect.

I've been trying to figure out how to do exactly the same thing. I have the factory nav with backup camera, and a Voyager wireless system for my 5th wheel. I'm trying to figure out how to have a 5th wheel hitch camera since I can't see the hitch, and a front camera.

Lots of ideas, just looking for the cleanest approach.

A camera in the brake/cargo light would be the ideal location.

Agreed. The cargo light is the best location. I'm thinking about changing out my standard rearview mirrow with a Ford video mirror (I have a tailgate backup camera, but the video feed is to the nav unit). Then put a switch somewhere to switch between cargo light camera / front camera. Does anybody know if the video feed wire still goes to the mirror even if it's not a video mirror?

The Kenwood unit is pretty basic, auto hands free and Bluetooth audio is about it. I got it more for the Garmin nav.
