Dashboard, repair or replace??

I took my 2011 Expedition in to get the blend door motor fixed and when the dealer removed the center, black trim piece, they scratched the adjacent silver portion of my dashboard. I took it in and my service manager said they would order the part and replace it because they damaged it. I normally wouldn't be that spun up about it but the silver keeps flaking off and exposing the black underneath it; it looks bad. Anyway, two days later they called me back and said that since the silver piece is actually the entire dashboard, they didn't want to replace it but rather they would like to repair it by painting it. I have two concerns about all of this. 1. If they repair it with paint, how long will that last until it becomes discolored or start peeling off itself. 2. If I do push them to replace the part (entire dashboard) like they said they would, how likely am I going to then get squeaks and rattles. It's very disappointing because the damage is just the result of sloppy work. The repair technician should have masked off the silver portion of the dashboard and then not used it as a prying surface to remove the center cluster trim. What is your take on it? Repair or replace? Please help because I'm very torn about what to do.

From: Long Beach, Ms.
They damaged it they have to return it to pre damage condition.
If that means a replacement the so be it.
It wasn't painted prior to the damage.
We replace dash units quite often at the body shop.
Do not accept a paint job.
Head down to the courthouse and see what it takes to file in small claims court.
The dealer will find it cheaper to do the replacement than pay a lawyer to represent him in a losing case.

They should replace it.

I work at a new car dealer (not Ford) and if this happend we would have to eat it. The service manager can warranty just about anything as long as it's under 100k. I would demand it be fixed, if not call Ford and see what they have to say about it.
