Does anyone have any experience at putting a yblock into a 52 F1? Doesnt seem to be room for the generator down low on passenger side. Any ideas? I'd like to keep the generator. Rich
'52 BIG trucks were available with the 279 and 317 c.i. OHV engines that were a lot like a Y-block. They used a single center front mount like the '53-on trucks. The angled braces a flat V8 uses for mounts were omitted and side brackets (see below) were added to the side frame rails. A crossbeam went between the brackets and caught the center mount. I imagine a similar setup would give you all the room you need.
stu had a yblock in one of the mh 4x4 bonus builts he has . it came with it installed and it used the same stuff to mount it ross is showing i believe . i got the y and stu has all the brackets etc. don't know if there are any differences from the flatty stuff and it maybe he can enlighten you . put an alternator on it with a bought or fabbed up bracket mounting it like a flatty up high in the middle above the intake . you can get flatty brackets easily , the oe ones , and or a 40 alternator bracket for a flatty from speedway to alter as needed . actuallt after looking at ross's pictures again it used the horseshoe collar like the flatty in stu's truck . i took it and some other things off to give back to him . maybe the flatty engine mount works with the y block ?
Well I got my Y block Merc mounted in my 52 F1 and now I need to put an alternator on it. I see some kits available from the Ford suppliers. Any recomendations ? Rich
