The issue with the double cardan driveshaft is the yoke on the transfer case needs to be replaced. There is a yoke available but is is made in Taiwan. Last I checked anyway. Otherwise they a very hard to come by. Definitely worth the effort IMHO.
pete, what is a cardan? is that the double u joint thing up by the tcase? because my f250hd has that already. does that mean if I were to do a D60 swap that i could use my original front shaft? or is it the other way around and the 350 doesnt have that?
You are a lucky guy then. IIRC there was a TSB and some were fitted with the double cardan shaft. No worries for you on the the transfer case end! Kinda like winning the lottery!
I don't know off the top of my head if the yoke on the D50 and D60 are the same. I expect they are.
I agree it's not the stoutest setup, but 180k miles and they still work fine.
First year I had the truck we had a good snowstorm. Truck had 50k miles. I made it to work fine, but on the way home I put it four high and heard a clunk in the front left area. Huh. Wierd. Drove down the road and that side wasn't grabbing at all. Auto hub broke. Other side worked till I got home, but then it had trouble engaging when I drove down to get my Warn Premiums. It was a slow embarrassing crawl back up the hill with me in the big black faux-by-four slowing everyone else down.
I am happy they work great for you, but I'll get out and lock them in, thank you very much. I am used to it after 40 years.

I think I fleaBayed the parts for a buck.
Yeah I'd love to have a set of the warn premiums just too many other things on the list at the moment. I might look into them a little harder now if I can get cash for the autos.
