Your Injector is NOT Broken.

90% of "Failing" Injectors Suffer from Stiction

Hot Shot's Secret | Diesel Engine Oil Additive

This stuff sounds good. Could it be one of those things that's to good to be true. I like the word Striction

we used some stuff similar to this dont remember if it was this product but i think it was another one that had the same out come, put it a 6.0l at work that had 5 bad injectors doing a cold miss and didnt click on buzz test cold, ran the thing a few hundred miles and no results not a signle one changed, just change oil and f/f and you wont have the sludge or dirt build up in the injector that will cause it to fail

A very good product in my experience. Been running it for a couple of years with very good results.

RevX seems to be really popular with the 6.0 crowd. Seems to help with cold temp stiction issues.

Some swear by Rev X others Hot Shot.
I think those products help the 6.0 more than the 7.3, although any oil additive is probably better than nothing.
The 7.3 doesn't have 'stiction' issues like the 6.0 spool valve.
Rather, the 7.3 Poppet wears down into the injector body and can be re-machined over and over to correct tolerances, something the 6.0 can't be addressed. The 7.3 by design is servicable over and over, the 6.0 is...not....

If you have a 7.3 and want the warm and fuzzy's, go for it.
If you don't want to spend the extra $$$ then don't sweat it, just change your oil regularly and you'll be fine.

Jim, there has been a few times and I try to avoid it but what do you think about 10K highway miles on Shaeffer's 7000 oil with a FS2500 oil by pass?? It is hard miles pulling but have always wanted your opinion on this. Thanks

I can't offer a whole lot of thoughts on synthetics and a good bypass set-up like the FS. The only thing I can say is rely on oil samples. You might be fine, with a really good oil and really good filtering.

But for regular dino oil (any brand) I swear by max of 2500 mile changes. Of all the high mile injectors I have worked on it's simply not a coincidance they last so long with so frequent changes.
If you don't drive much and/or don't care about injector, HPOP, or turbo wear then extend past 2500 miles all you want.
Just my simple opinion, of course.

Good info Jim.
I have a few friends who run schaeffers supreme 9000 with a bypass and do 10k miles and the oil analysis says its still good, but they change every 10k anyway.

Me, Well I run the supreme 9000 with the big donaldson and change every 5k. Ive had analysis done after Im changing it and its still good.

I just dont have a bypass setup.. and 5k is convenient since its time for tire rotation and brake inspection anyway! lol

Alex, do you do the Shaeffer's oil test or use someone else? I use the free ones and the 7000 oil because it doesn't shear down as much as other oils I've used. I can't imagine 2,500 miles on cross country trips like I do. I don't mind 7K or so but start to feel guilty when it gets above that. When I'm gone from AZ for six months I usually go 10K to 12K miles but I'm starting to carry Shaeffer's with me (hard to find) and find a place to change it.

Glenn,
A major factor in extended oil changes is not only a good oil, but a good bypass filtering set-up.
I don't think you can get any better than the FS.
It looks like you are set-up for 7k - 10k changes. If the sample tests say you're good then go for it.

Yeah I have a local vendor who I pay like 10 bucks and they do the shcaeffers oil test.
I am the same way Glenn. I buy gallon jugs from my vendor as they are cheaper and 3 of them is a fillup for me! Thanks to the big donaldson!
But I am the same way, on long trips I carry an oil change (and then some) and a filter with me. I also have that little nipple thing Clay sells so oil changes are easy. lol

What do you pay per qt for your 7000? my shop is local and they do alot of racing applications and I crunched numbers with them how I could just order from schaeffers online ($250+) and get free shipping and I worked out the price per qt to be less than they were selling it for. So now I get my 9000 for a better price from em and I dont have to buy $250 of oil at once! They still get some profit too...

I pay $18 a gallon for the 7000 and they give me sample kits for free that are mailed for free right to Schaeffer's. I feel lucky to have a dealer near me and was surprised when he handed me the free sample kits, even an extra one for when I'm on the road. I also use their auto trans fluid, I feel that if BTS uses it and guarantee's the trans with it then its good for me! Ya, I like it so far.
