I am preparing to do a coolant flush and want to get away from Ford Gold but I cant'find any HD- ELC coolant. What brand names or outlets can you find it. I've looked at Autozone, Oriellys and NAPA.

 

Not sure what's around you...but I'd check with your local truck dealership (Kenworth, Peterbuilt) or truck supplier...such as TruckPro. Your looking for Cat ELC which is a silica free coolant....or a generic equal to it. If it says SCA charged or SCA supercharged...stay away from it.

 

You will want to make sure that the ELC you get is EC-1 certified, and 100 % concentrate. The only place I can find around me the sells it in 100 % is the Volvo truck dealer. They sell Prestone ELC that's EC-1 certified. Most all truck (big rig) shops/dealers carry ELC, but most of them only carry the 50/50. You can probably get one of them to order you a case that's not pre-deluted, but when I did mine I didn't want to wait for it to come in.

 

oreillys has the stuff in my sig Final Charge ELC CAT EC-1 sillicate frree rated

they had to order it in but had it the next day you need 4 gall full strength and add 3.5 gallons after you flush or whatever and that will give you 50/50 mix a touch strong but good the last half gallon fill with water and use for top off

 

Thanks all. I'll look for a truck shop locally and see if I can find it. I found the Prestone ad on the web but I can't find anybody that has it in my area. I'll keep searching.
