dave i think you will be better off with it in the lighter port.
andy, miles said the coolant and oil temps stayed within 5* while towing, and the truck isnt using/puking coolant. how does that sound for EGR cooler, oil cooler, head gaskets being blown? im thinking that is the classic flat rate stealership throwing money making repairs on a hook and waiting for someone to bite. i suggested egr delete, which eliminates valve and cooler.
also, he said it has an EGR fault that is active and returns after being cleared...head gaskets being blown wouldnt give them an egr fault, black smoke/no power issue, so even if they are leaking thats not the problem the dealer was supposed to be diagnosing.
and the black smoke no power thing didnt happen for 5 days now after i told him to accelerate hard a few times and after i drove it hard for a few minutes, and i also ran the archoil 6200 fuel additive i run through it, and it seemed to clear up nicely. EGR Delete, coolant filter and new coolant and hopefully this truck will make it for a couple more months... just sent the email off to my uncle with links to parts
although he went and looked at 2012 ram 5500 cummins today
ive actually heard the new 6.7 cummins are having more problems than the new 6.7 powerstrokes. he got the whole dodge idea because someone at the ford dealer said they were switching their fleet from ford to dodge...
and i guarantee you were right about them just hoping he'd say yes. im glad he said no, i fully expected him to just say whatever, fix it. think they quoted him like $3700 which included 30 labor hours?
ya $4000 is the going rate for HG's, and as we have proven they dont take long to do, especially with a lift and a mechanic that does them all the time.
Miles I thought he was puking coolant.
His temp oil/coolant delta is good.
And you need to work the 6.0 and run them hard to clean things out every now and then
I think Aaron has the right idea.
What coolant are you going to use ?

Now that I'm making money again and considering that I had drawn all the equity out of my brakes before I left for Afghanistan, I have decided to start a thread:
