Power steering

One of the power steering hoses popped out of the pump. I had to drive 35 miles to get back home. Is the pump ok? It looks like the line is ok other than the nut is still in the pump and the line is now a dangler!

Do I have to buy a new line or am I able to repair this one

When that happened to me I bought a new line. Sure makes a mess and puts some muscle in the arms, 35 miles is long way to man handling it!

I think you have to buy a new line, I dont think they are repairable IIRC. Dads old cc did that 20 miles from home and it ran his pump dry. I think he just put a new hose on it and filled with fluid and the pump was fine, i dont remember him putting a new pump on.

New line is in. But the pump is making a lot of noise. Looks like I will be working on it soon!

I didn't have any problems either. Mine happened in town. Make sure you turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and to the right about 10 times. This bleeds the air out of the pump.

I had it on stands and ran it back and forth a few times but maybe not enough. I will check the fluid level and try bleeding it again.

I checked the fluid again and it was a little low so I topped it and all is well! Thanks everyone!

To be fair, Grandpa had a steering wheel that was twice as large to help him get mechanical advantage.
