Personally, I don't like them. They have a tendency to leak, the latches break, and it's made of more than one piece.

I'm the opposite train of thought that I want a solid rear window. Way less chance of a leakage, one less thing that can break, it looks clean, and if I can't get enough breeze from a regular cab truck with 2 vent windows and 2 roll down windows, then I'm in trouble.

I'm a sucker for simplicity too.
How can your hounds stick their head in the cab and give you a big old slobbery lick in the face if you don't have a sliding rear window?

I love my rear slider. Only thing wrong with mine is that it is missing the handles on the center panes, and the felt has all been pulled out.

My Ranger had a solid window when I bought it. I took that out and put in a slider.

I personally don't like the look of a big giant single pane of glass.

And since Ralph started the Ford glass makers talk, here's another interesting fact. Ford used to mine silica sand from directly beneath the Twin Cities Assembly Plant. The sand they pulled from below was used to make glass for Ford vehicles from 1926 until 1959.

Yes, that is what I understand about it.

The reason why they had three companies in the first place is marketing strategy. (I had a job being a salesman (not car salesman) for awhile)

Why they have three grades of gasoline, usually three choices of microwaves or vacuums in Walmart etc...

Most people pick the mid range priced items as the cheapest leads them to think cheap, and the high end is too expensive.

Gear production and prices toward mid range and it maximizes your profits... Remember that the next time you go to the store. It might save you money.

My companion will always ride with me up on the passenger side of the bench seat. He's got the pick of two windows there, vent or roller! Plus, Ralph the Bloodhound doesn't like a load of loud noises, so I don't think he'd like a 300 with a glasspack ending mid-ways next to the rear driveshaft under the bed. He likes music too. Besides, if he's in the bed, then how's he going to slobber all over the side of my truck? A real hound dog like him needs his head out the window anyhow.

No offense, but I don't got any use for no liquor, nor cigarettes, cigars, dip, drugs, what have you. My father likes both cigarettes and cigars and rarely you'll catch him with a cigar. He used to dip quite often but has bucked that habit, and now all he does is smoke. Mom smokes too.

I don't mind people that smoke, drink or do drugs, so long as they aren't constantly high and doing it/carrying it around me. If you want to waste your life, go for it, just leave me out of it. It's your decision not mine (referring to the drugs, that is. Smoking, dip, and some drinking, go for it).

One thing I don't' have any use for is a drunk. You know the type: the kind that you can smell as soon as you get 10 feet away, and always dilute their morning brew with it too.

Cheers fellas! Hope the weather is swell enough around you guys that you can all pop your windows open! Just cut the grass earlier today and love that sweet, sweet smell.

If I told ya'll how I really felt, I might get the boot. It'd take a page at least to tell you what I think about illegals (Canadian and "Hispanic" (gotta be politically correct, lest the I be called racist )), all the criminals in the white house, the UN, the middle east, South America, Communists, Socialists, Facists, Liberals, Obama the barking boy, hypocrites, tree-huggers and wanna-be "environmentalists" (the only environmentalist I like is Ted Roosevelt), and a heap of other things I have an extreme distaste for like child molesters, rapists, thieves (no use for them either! work and get a job if you've gotta have it that bad) and in general the scum of society.

But yeah, a drink or two, I don't mind. It's the actual DRUNKS that I have no use for.

I'm very vocal with my opinions when I want to be. God gave me a mouth, I'm going to use it!

Yep, best I remember they did.
BTW, Mercury was not always a Ford company anymore than Lincoln was. Just like GM bought up Buick/Olds/Pontiac Ford did so with Mercury and Lincoln.

My name's Rick. Just don't get drunk and drive! A couple of beers won't hurt anyone though.

My dog, who died just after Christmas this year, rode in front with me!

My name is Don. One dog loves to ride in the passenger seat, the other is skeered of the truck. My cat is at the vet and probably won't see home agin. He would sit in the middle of the dash and watch the world go by...

And I drink PBR thank you. Molson sometimes at the hockey games, aye.

Yeah, I was just kidding. I wouldn't put my dogs in the bed either, unless the truck had a camper shell on it. I would be too worried about them back there. I've never had a sliding rear window, but I've always kind of wanted one. If they tend to leak then yes, that is a drawback.

To be honest, I haven't heard of many sliding rear windows that do leak, but the possibility is always there. It's just another set of weather stripping to worry with.

Te biggest problem you'll hear about them, though, is the little handles busting.

Through research I have found that the CR Lawrence is available aftermarket and they are the ones that tend to leak and are a bit less reliable. In fact that is what I currently have installed (aftermarket) in my truck. I also found a local glass company that carries the OEM rear slider and I can get the window and installation for about $240.00.

If you guys pay attention to my build thread, I'm going to post a link to the new and used parts from the resto which will include my Carlite rear slider when I pull it out. Nothing's wrong with it, just putting in a one piece after paint.

But patience, we are talking months here

Guys-here's mine

Dog has passed but loved to set in passenger seat and enjoy window air/view

Drink beer, but when I lived in Texas, slider window was so you could run tap from keg sitting in bed(yeah everything in Texas.....)use to dip and smoke, just fat now

Have had oem and aftermarket sliders on several bull-nose models, have not had problem with leaking-now live in southeast where it rains-no leaks

I ordered a rear window replacement rubber seal from LMC, it was not as think as the oem version-I returned it without a problem. I cleaned up the oem with tire shine stuff-looks good as new
