I found two bad Plug wires, still not the problem. The problem is each of the coils had a bad output. replaced the coils and now no engine codes and truck doesn't die anymore
OK, good find, fix, feedback & to hear your "on the road again"!!!!!
Unusual that both coilpacks would fail at the same time, did they have underside cracks by chance????
If you found two bad plug wires, I hope you replaced the entire set with OEM, or like kind, designed to take the double work load that our "waste spark" ignition system puts on them!!!!
I did replace all 8 plugs and wires, OEM like. I didn't see any cracks on the coils, the only thing I noticed was the four outputs on each coil had three Shiny metal contacts and on Dull contact. Also, there was a bad wire going to number One cylinder on the Left(passenger side) and I believe the number Three cylinder on the right(Driverside).
i dont recall if this year still has the old tfi module? but if it does my 87 did this and it was the connection between the pickup in the distributor, and the tfi. one of the contacts had corroded and would make intermittent connection, replaced distributor and tfi hasnt given me any trouble in the last 10 years
