i have a 1994 ford f-150 with around 305hp. i want to be able to put on 44" tires. besides a lot of lift (abour how much???) what would i need to do to do this??? -D
How much lift depends on if you want to hack the fenders for clearance, or if you 4 wheel with it, ect.... For 44" boggers you will need 1-ton drivetrain... Your stock axles will be very unhappy with 44" boggers even on the street, you'll need D60's and I've seen those break with 44" boggers.
I would sugggest doing a solid axle conversion, if it is a mostly street driven truck i would use a dana 44 front out of a f150 get one out of a later 70s f150 open knuckle. it should be a bolt in . you will have to use a pretty big lift to keep the fornt axle from hitting the ttb crossmember but you will need it for the 44s i belive you can get up to a 12 inch kit for 73-79 fords you may also need a 3 inch body lift. for extra strength you can use 76-79 f250 knuckles swap evertthing from the balljionts out including the stub shaft then use a f250 or f350 rear axle out of close to the same year as your f150 so the speed sensor will work. if it is a offroad truck that is used hard get a dana 60 or 2.5 ton rockwells then you would have to build a completly custom front suspension either a link setup with coil springs or coilovers. you can also use leafsprings, the front spring rear hanger off a ttb f250 will bolt on in place of your stock radius arm mounts, but the front shackle mount will have to be custom fabbricated the frame also has to be boxed over the corrogated stock frame i would plate it all the way to the ttb crossmember.
ill get the truck back tomorrow, and yea, it did cost a lot!! but it will be plenty worth it!!!! ill get pix of the beast as soon as it rollsout, and ill get sum nice muddin pix after that see ya soon!!!
ah, my baby is back!!!!!!! it is one beast, and yea, it took close to 14" of lift, i think closer to 15, and sum serious suspension mods, but dangit, it was SOOO worth it. look in the user gallery, only got one pic for now. thanks for everyones help.
