Fascinating. I am new to this. A lawyer by training, I've always loved cars and motorcycles. Have a 51 F 1 w/ flathead. Same color as yours. So just a first question. Where can I buy a stock size rim for a spare? Truck has alloys and radials, but no spare. I have more urgent issues. Brake lights don't work, for example...body is good. Engine runs. Brakes good. Petronius ignition installed.
One thing at a time.
Best

Is there an easy way to change stock rear end to a higher ratio so I can cruise at 55-60 instead of 45-50?

Geoffrey, welcome to FTE, the best Ford truck forum on the world wide web!

A couple of things. Start your own thread about your truck. Also include pictures of your truck. Please put your location in the top right corner so we can see where you are from.

Then guys will be along to answer your questions.

About your brake lights.... We will need more info. It could be the switch, it could be a short in your wires, could be a ground, etc. Did they work previously.

Instead of bolts nuts and wrench's it will be wax on wax off! Very nice truck, I am sure you are very proud of it.

Sorry to take over a year to reply (I missed your post!). My truck originally had 370 or so gears in it, but I found that to be too low for cruising with just a 3-speed transmission (it would have been fine if I had OD). I ordered a set of 280 gears for the rearend and we installed them. That's really tall gears. It won't win any drag race but it does cruise really nicely at 60, 70 mph, or higher if you can handle all the wind noise!
