I've just bought a 99 F350 CC Diesel dually, will pull a 24' tag along weighing around #8000 loaded. Any suggestions as to what I can do to my stock transmission to make it pull better and last longer? When should I change fluid? The Service Manual say 60,000 (I believe), but Chilton's says 30,000 ... I'm gonna change it, the mileage is right at 33,000, and while I was in there I was wondering about mods. I'm installing a Transmission Cooler this weekend, as well as a Trans Temp Gauge ... any other suggestions? Shift Kit?
The simplest mod is the Sonnax valve and tricumulator spring kit. It will really firm up shifts. Ford recomends 30k intervals on changing the fluid. Don't forget to drain the TQ converter(it has a small plug) You should get about 95% of the fluid this way.
http://techtranstool.com/ Give these guys a call, I believe they sell both and will also give you some good info.
Ken I noticed that the Diablo trans modification is for the 01's. Do they make a mod kit for the 03"s or is it the same thing? Just asking. As usual I'm confused. nothing unusual but still just me.
Which transmission in your 2003? There were two. The first few months with the 7.3L had the 4R100, which was the same as 2002. After mid-November the engine changed to the 6.0L and the transmission to the TorqShift 5 speed automatic.
