power steering pulley
Can anyone tell me how to remove the pulley from the power steering unit. Mine has a 3/8 inch hex socket in the centre. The problem is I have to hold the pulley in a vise which bends it went too much force is applied?
The hanes manual doesn't tell me anything.
Any suggestions?

you have to use a power steering pulley puller, no way around it. also heat is usually a really last resort and a bad one at that. the pump seals can easily be damaged by heat but more importantly the pulley itself is unusual as it is made of two pieces oven brazed together and heating can melt the brazing or anneal it so it fails later. trust me when i say a pulley coming off makes some nasty trouble! take your pump to the parts store (not kragen) and let the machinist take it off. hawkrod
