Installing a parking brake
I recently obtained a '75 F100 - I can't believe I missed this one before I bought it: There's no parking brake.
Dudes - it's just not there. I must have been waayyy to excited to miss that... I could've used that as more bargining power!
Anyway - This truck has a '78 ford disc brake system on the front and drums on the back. The disc brakes were done by the owner before the guy I bought it from - so I guessed they were working well since the last guy had the truck 10 yrs...
So I'm thinking of getting some sort of parking brake (the tire blocks just look funny when I'm out in public
) - the tranny can slip out of park pretty easy... (currently adjusting the likage.. hoping it will help.) Are there "replacement parking brake systems" available - or should a trip to the junk yard be in my future or maybe do a custom job?Has anyone else had to replace the total system? I've read a few posts on parking brakes - mostly replacing cables and whatnot... I'm hoping I can just tie into each brake with a custom cable system and "in the cab ratchet system". (?)

You'll want to pay attention to the foot setup as there are different ones (I think). Mine missed by about 1/4" where it bolts to the dash and I have to make another bracket.
It's really a simple system, foot ratchet, 1 cable back to about mid way, then splits to a cable to each of the rear brakes and a large spring where it splits. Just make sure the cables are in good condition.
Seeing that it looked like a simple system - and then actually hearing that it is - and has been done - makes me get the warm fuzzies!
Whoo HOoo!! I can park on hills!!!
