Driving to work the other day i noticed my cruise quit. 99 f350 7.3L and a ZF6. It has been intermittently working, before if it quit i would either have to shut my truck off and restart it or take it out and put it back in 6th gear, and it would work again. but now it will not work no matter what i do. has anyone else had this problem? I do not have any idea of how the cruise system works on these trucks.
I presume you do not have a service engine soon light....correct?
If not, then first thing I'd check is your clutch validation switch. I suppose those can fail and trick the PCM into thinking the clutch is being depressed....which would have the side effect of disabling the cruise. Just a thought...
Not sure what the difference is between auto and standard trannys, but it's almost always the clockspirn behind the airbag. If that's the case, you'll soon aso loose your horn, and then the airbag light stay on. It's about $60 from Ford last time I got one. They come with a 1 year warantee, so if you want, you can save the old one for about 6-8 months, then take it back in with the receipt and ask fr a new one. Kinda unscrupulous, but a drop in the bucket compared to how they gouge us...

This would be the first thing I would check, it's usually the culprit. There's a spring in there that breaks.
