I just installed an engine and trans from an 06 Escape in an 02 escape and the altenator wiring is diferent. The new,06 one has three wires, BRN/WT,BLK/YL,GRAY/RD. The 02 escape has two wires, red/green,blk/yl. I hooked up blk/yl to each other and gray/rd to red/green. I left the brn/wht unhooked because it was the center wire and the old alt. had nothing hooked to the center. It would not charge and one time i touched the brn/wht to ground and the alt started charging but then when we cycled power it did not charge. Can anyone tell me how to wire this or where to go to find out ? My son took his 02 swimming and it didnt float to well so dad gets to fix it !
I am assuming the 02 alternator will not bolt onto the newer engine? I don't have any diagrams for those vehicles, Autozone may have some, you can go check in their vehicle repair guides section.
06 BK/YE Black/Yellow Battery power
GY/OG Gray/Orange Wired to PCM GY/RD
BN/WH Brown/White Wired to PCM
02 BK/YE Black/Yellow Battery power
LG/RD Light Green/Red Ignition power wired thru battery indicator in instrument cluster.
Two entirely different charging control systems, the 06 being controlled by the pcm. Not sure if you can actually make this alternator function properly or at all in this application.
It may be possible to change the voltage regulator in the 06 alternator, I don't know what alternator you have but I just converted a 6G alternator that was PCM controlled. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say for sure it works, but it should. The alt. I have had a white voltage regulator, I swapped in a gray voltage regulator.
