I seen brake fluid on the fire wall behind the brake pedal last week and its coming from the boot area, so i cleaned it up to see how bad the leak was and nothing. Drove it for a week and still nothing. Then last night i get in the truck and theres the fluid again. It's a 64 f250 manual brakes. Parts guy quoted me $75 for a new one, does that sound about right?
I don't know, but I do know that a rebuild kit is much less expensive and doesn't take long to rebuild. The only thing you really need is snap ring pliers and a brake hone. Don't hone it much, just barely enough to make a difference.

We're talking brake master cylinders here not engine cylinders, so unless you are very, VERY lucky, there will be pitting and corrosion from moisture in the brake fluid that needs to be removed. Not sure how much oversize you can go, but you need to remove this, else the new rubber seals will just leak like the old.
Understood, but you want to remove as little as possible with a brake hone, otherwise you will just have to have it sleeved, in which case it is probably worth it to just buy a new master cylinder.
You wont know until you take it off and look at it.
Agreed! Why spend the time when you can buy one ready to bolt on... It comes down to how much is your time worth, and with a rebuilt from the parts stores you usually get a warranty too. Quite often you can get a core refund also. It is also a good time to upgrade to a better master too!
You don't have to agree lol, if I rebuild it I'm not going to spend hours on it. I'll tear it down, throw seals at it then put it back together. I'd rather just get a new one and be done with it.
I bought a new one when mine failed, a few weeks later I did the upgrade to full power dual master with the CPP bolt on kit.. the best move I ever made! Man it improved the driveability ! It was a $295 kit, but it made a massive difference, and it was about a one to two hour job to swap in.... Most of the time spent splitting the brake lines into two systems..
