-If i start it up and let it idle and run cold has perfect pressure on the "R".
-If i drive it and warm it up, It will drop to the "O" on a good trip around
-Other times it will flicker like it is catching then fall flat to low then bounce back up.
-Other times it will just stay at low
-Other times it will go way past the low
Sending unit? Gauge its self? bearing issue?
Sending unit- replace or aftermarket gauge?
With an aftermarket gauge any special fittings needed?
Have you checked whether or not its getting voltage to the sending unit? Think its a voltage pulse instead of constant. I sometimes get that with my fuel gauge. It likes to move all over the place every now and then. Don't think you need anything special. Dealer more money, Aftermarket cheaper its up to you...
Is it the sending unit its self? or is it the gauge its self? or a wiring issue. I do not have my DVOM at home to get a true voltage. But a test light would tell me if there is voltage.
i have an 89 350 and it does something similar to yours, once its warmed up it will drop at idle but increase to normal any other time, unless its been on a longer trip then it will drop to low all the time. i've been told its in the gauge itself.
unplug the sender, ground the wire, with key in on position, it should peg out on the high side, if it does this, the wiring and gauge are probably ok, try a sender. Also manually test pressure with a test kit to be sure what it really is.
I'm going to try that the mechanical gauge. Also may keep the gauge because if I am correct the gauge its self is not a "Gauge" more of an "On/Off". Also I lightly vise griped the sending unit wire to the engine hoist spot and also to the A/C point. The gauge did not move. but that was with one person trying. I am going to attempt it again after I get another set of hands.
